After Black Friday, British pundit George Monbiot nominates the picture of shoppers braving a flooded street with sale items as “the photo of our times”. Commenters assumed it was from Venice, where floods are common. It appears to be from earlier this month in Hong Kong, and depicts Chinese tourists shopping. Still quite a “photo of our time”!

Off Twitter for a change, Donald Trump made an official statement on the official White House website. The statement details his policy towards Saudi Arabia in the light of the Jamal Khashoggi murder. But it is also an unashamed admission that one thing overrules every other concern: oil.
